Live theatre in the heart of Burton upon Trent
Ashby Stagecoach - performing arts school
Stagecoach Theatre Arts was founded in 1988 by Stephanie Manual and David Sprigg, with just three schools in Surrey.
Fast forward to today, and Stagecoach is now Britain’s largest network of part time performing arts schools, with over 500 schools in operation.
Stagecoach Ashby de la Zouch is run by Principal Hannah Kirkpatrick, who has been both a Stagecoach student, and one of its teachers.
Hannah said: "Stagecoach is all about building confidence, making friends, and having fun. When I began as a student at Stagecoach I was cripplingly shy (as my friends at LTC who remember me as an awkward teenager will attest)! After a term or two at the Burton upon Trent school however, I felt that I had found myself. I grew in confidence, made firm friends, and learned some valuable skills along the way.
"I now work as a professional actress and run my own business – a huge change from the nervous girl that I was. Stagecoach aims to help each and every child who passes through the doors find their feet and learn skills for life – not just a bit of acting, singing and dancing! The atmosphere of support and enjoyment is palpable when you enter the schools, and students leave at the end of a session feeling refreshed, inspired and ready to deal with whatever life throws their way. There is nowhere I would rather spend my Saturdays!"
Stagecoach offers a two week trial period at a price of £50 (for the main school, ages 6 – 18) or £25 (for Early Stages, age 4 – 6). This deposit is then deducted from the term’s fees upon signing up.
Discounts are available for siblings attending together, and anyone referred through Little Theatre Company will receive their first term half price! Just select ‘other’ and enter ‘Little Theatre Company’ when asked ‘Where did you hear about us?’ on your online application.
Numbers are limited to around 15 students per class, and places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. As well as the weekly sessions, run by teachers who are all working professionals in their field, students also have access to PPA and LAMDA exams (which carry UCAS points), workshops with West End performers, trips, charity events and many performance opportunities.
